Hut at Peau de Meau © Perrine Turiez – CA13

Walls and ceilings have been restored and repainted inside. The exterior façade was also given a new look with a beautiful lime plaster (see photo). The installation of a new sewage tank begins the process of renovating the sanitary installations of the house. All this was carried out by the company TRADIRENOVE (Fourques, 30) and supervised by our ranger Hubert DUPICZAK (CEN PACA).

Many thanks to them!

This initial work will be completed in the coming months by electrical, plumbing and carpentry projects. The aim is to provide the shepherd with optimal working conditions during the guarding season. The shepherds’ huts and sheepfolds in the Crau coussouls are not connected to the local water and electricity networks. Specific techniques and equipment are therefore required to enable them to be fed.

The aim of this restoration measure, which is part of the LIFE SOS Crau Grasshopper project, is to encourage and foster a virtuous circle by participating in a policy of developing the fidelity of the Crau’s shepherds: the better the shepherds are accommodated, the less turnover there will be from one year to the next, and the easier it will be to work with them on joint management of the coussoul over time.

Peau de Meau’s shepherd will move in during the month of March. The LIFE SOS Crau Locust team is happy to participate, alongside the sheep breeder, in providing for his needs in terms of housing and working conditions!
